About

Counsellor, Teacher & Author

I understand that every person is comprised of body, soul and spirit, and that each of these parts impacts the other and contributes to wholeness. My therapeutic approach is based on Christian spiritual values and beliefs, and addresses brokenness in the parts of a person where health, emotional wellness, and spiritual growth may be blocked.

I offer a specialised form of prayer counselling and emotional healing for couples and individuals, and believe the stability of relationships and family is impacted by the issues each person brings to a relationship. More information on the counselling modalities I use may be found on my own website at www.rebuildministries.co.nz

In couples counselling, I begin with an online assessment called Prepare-Enrich. This tool helps to assess the strengths and opportunities for growth in a couple prior to marriage or when living together. Other aspects are suitable for those in long term relationships who would like to enrich their relationships and plan for their future. Issues covered include managing communication difficulties, and how to recover from relationship infidelity, or other issues of safety and connection in relationship.

I hold a BA in English and Diploma in Teaching, Bachelor in Theology, Diploma in Church Ministry and Bachelor of Social Services in Counselling. I spent 16 years as Minister in the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ followed by 2 years serving as a teacher in a Theological College in Myanmar.

I am married to Wayne and we have three adult children and three grandchildren.

Originally North Islanders, we are now settled in Wānaka making the most of the magnificent environment, and enjoying developing our land into a beautiful garden.

SPIRITUAL COUNSELLING

A specialised form of prayer counselling and emotional healing.

  • It represents Christian values and beliefs and attempts to bring Christian meaning and prayer to bear on problems that bring a person to counselling, in the first instance to help grow and develop a person’s relationship with Jesus Christ as the true source of lasting healing.

  • The counselling offered is a prayerful exploration of childhood memories, dissociative parts, it also deals with personal and generational soul ties and trauma. This can be more fully explained in the first session. The method draws on Helen’s personal experience in counselling and in many hours of training and courses all of which have added to an eclectic mix of therapeutic skills and tools.

  • Helen charges $75/hour. Counselling is undertaken by a means of specific appointments held face to face or by Zoom.
Sometimes it is helpful to have longer appointments to enable the ministry to progress. If there is a need for this it will be obvious to both parties and can then be negotiated in terms of time and cost as appropriate.

Appointments could look like a morning or afternoon per week, a couple of days at a time or a week at one time if you were travelling to Wānaka. Generally a day will cost $300 and a morning $150.

Helen works with an online tool called Prepare-Enrich, as well as many other counselling modalities.

  • This tool helps to assess the strengths and opportunities for growth in a couple prior to marriage or when living together.

  • Different aspects of this tool are suited for those in long term relationships who would like to enrich their relationships and plan for their future.

  • It’s a great platform to discuss communication difficulties or when recovering from an affair or other problems in a long-term relationship.

This seminar coaches from the premise that every Christian can see and hear and interact with Jesus at any time. Building on the prayer that Paul prays for every believer in Ephesians 1: 17-18 we will:

  • build a theological understanding of what it means to ‘know’ and ‘see’ Jesus.

  • learn and practice a simple process to connect with Jesus.

  • explore what sometimes prevents us from connecting.

  • learn how thanksgiving and appreciation open our spirit and soul to receive from Jesus.

  • learn how even mild trauma can overwhelm us and the brain science behind it.

  • learn and practice how we can coach others to experience Jesus’ presence in order to grow in intimacy and healing.
